After years of running his own consulting firm, Bernie joined the State Department and manages software applications for the US embassies worldwide. Joan works on aviation safety for FAA. He and Joan live outside Washington, D.C. in Reston, VA., but are looking to retire to Phoenix, AZ next year.

9-3-12 Update
After retiring from the State Dept. in 2010, Bernie did some consulting, working on energy conservation projects for State. He was then free to accompany wife Joan on business trips to Munich, Vienna, and Paris, where they also visited 2 former exchange students. They both decided to retire last July, sold their home in Reston, bought an RV, and began spending summers in Carlisle, PA, with eldest son, Jason.

After daughter Allison and son-in-law Matt had their first child, Hallie Belle, while living in LA, they decided to move to Austin, Texas, where Bernie's younger son Alexander has worked as a software engineer for the last ten years. With Alexander's and Allison's families settled in Austin, Bernie and Joan decided to change their retirement plans and bought a house in Spicewood, in the Texas Hill Country, to live the rest of the year. Traveling back and forth via the mountains and National Parks in the West has given them a new perspective on our great country, as well as the opportunity for Bernie to take up fly fishing.

During the last year Allison and Matt added a new baby girl, Lola Pearl, who enjoys close attention from the fond grandparents. On the Pennsylvania end, Sydney, almost ten, likes to travel with Bernie and Joan on local camping trips as well as a recent cruise to Bermuda. They'll be heading back to Texas after the reunion.
