Following CV62, I attended Houghton College receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. The next four years were at Boston University School of Theology. I received a Masters of Theology degree in 1970. In 1970 I was ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church. It was also in 1970 that I married Karen, whom I met when a staff member at Sky Lake, a United Methodist Camp near Windsor, NY. Karen is a school librarian, working with the Broome County Catholic Schools. We have two sons. Both are married, but no grandchildren have yet appeared. Paul is a special education teacher and football coach having been in Baltimore and this year moving to Allentown, Pa. Pete lives near us in Endicott. He works in the classroom at the Children’s Home School in Hillcrest. I continued my education at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, receiving a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1981. My career has primarily been pastoring United Methodist Churches in the Binghamton area. In United Methodist fashion, we have moved quite a lot, but never far and not as often as most pastors. We lived in Vestal for 12 years and now just across the river in Endicott for 8 years. In 1985 I became a Council Director, a middle denominational executive for the United Methodist Church. I had programmatic oversight for churches in Oneonta, Binghamton Wilkes Berra, and Scranton areas. Currently, I serve as pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Endicott. For those in the area who are curious, I am televised on Time Warner Cable Channel 6 on Sundays at 8 am and Mondays at 5:30 pm. Additionally, I have traveled a great deal. I particularly enjoyed three different month long trips to Zimbabwe were I did some teaching and resourcing for pastors. I plan to retire in the next year or two, as soon as I figure what I want to do next. March 2012 Update I retired in 2006 after a career as a United Methodist pastor. Ten days after moving into our retirement home in Vestal, we were flooded out. We lost much. Our belongings were still in boxes. It had never flooded in that location before; it was called the 100 year flood; so we rebuilt. In September on 2011 the floods came again with even greater devastation. We bought a new home in March, 2012 on higher ground in Tioga Terrace, Apalachin. After retirement and flood recovery, I went back to work as a part time associate pastor at Owego United Methodist Church, a place that I had once served as senior pastor. The point of retirement was to be free to do different things. In January of 2011, I was asked to consider assuming a 1/3 time position as a Lutheran pastor. This more liturgical approach to the church presented a joyful opportunity to do something different. I now pastor The Evangelical Church of the Holy Nativity in Endicott. It truly is part time with 15 weeks off each year. We have four grandchildren ages 7, 6, 4, and three. One of our sons lives in Owego. The other is in Allentown, Pa. |
