![]() 1962-66 RPI, Troy, NY: Started in Electrical Engineering. Joined Sigma Chi Fraternity. Advanced Calculus convinced me to switch to Management Engineering in Junior Year. Had summer jobs with NY Telephone and General Electric. 1966 Married Mareta Cook in Binghamton. 1966 - 68 Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. MBA with a major in Marketing. Summer with Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati. 1968 - 72 IBM Palo Alto, CA. Data Processing Division salesman selling IBM mainframes to technology companies in Silicon Valley. Lived in Cupertino then Sunnyvale. Achieved 100% Club. Left in April 1972 because it wasn’t fun any more. 1972 - 73 Bought a VW camper and drove to South America for nearly two years with Mareta. Installed high power ham radio in VW which we used for the disaster relief of earthquake racked Managua, Nicaragua in December 1972 and to keep in touch with parents during the adventure of nearly 50,000 miles. ![]() 1974 – 78 Moved to Syracuse, NY, to work in the computer leasing and brokerage business. This job was so much fun that I spent 70-80 hours a week at it. My ignorance of office politics got me fired in 1978, so I took a chance and started my own business. 1978 – Reliance Used Computer Corp was started in my home. This company has evolved into two: CXtec and TERACAI, employs 275 people, and earns revenues over $100 million. We help our customers reduce the cost of their networking infrastructure, allowing greater investment in profitable applications, by providing our own brand of EqualToNew networking hardware and supply advanced technologies and support. 1983 – 1984 Lived a half year in Florida and a half year in Mexico City with the family, operating the business remotely. Family: Mareta and I separated, divorced and remain friends. Our Daughter Deryn, born 1976, graduated from George Washington University and is Assistant Director of Admissions at Syracuse University. We completed the upbringing of my two nieces, Alena and Laura. Alena was married 6/2001 and lives in Baldwinsville, NY; Laura graduated George Washington University New York University Law School. She is in house counsel for TD Securities in New York City and travels extensively. Mom Grace lives in a Clearwater nursing home at age 97 with husband Orson and doing well. 2004 I was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a particularly nasty case of blood cancer. The long battle against this disease included 3 rounds of chemotherapy totaling 88 days. Fiancé Sandra and I married in December after I survived the first round of induction chemotherapy. 2005 Received a lifesaving stem cell transplant at Dana Farber from an unrelated donor. I was introduced to my donor one year after the transplant. He was 27 years old and from Austin, TX. We’ve visited each other since. ![]() 2005 Started the William G. Pomeroy Foundation to support blood cancer programs and American history. 2006 Formed the American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Society to research and document the descendants of Eltweed Pomeroy, my 9th grand-father who emigrated from England in 1630. 2006 Installed the first Pomeroy Anvil Monument in Pompey, NY. Today, in 2012, 10 monuments have been installed, weighing up to 12 tons. 2010 Joined the board of the National Marrow Donor Program, the non-profit that manages the Be The Match Registry. My donor was found and transplant facilitated through the efforts of the NMDP. 2014 Completed construction of our new hilltop home in Lafayette, NY. 2016 Sold controlling interest in my company and retired from the day to day activities. 2018 Daughter Deryn joins my foundation with plans to expand our activates across the country. 2019 Full time with my Foundation and Genealogy group with 9 employees; no time to travel. To date we have facilitated over 80 bone marrow transplants, and installed over 800 historic roadside markers.
