After high school, I attended Palomar Junior Collage in San Marcos, CA and finished my BS in Materials Science at San Jose State College. I worked as a scientist at Lockheed’s Research Laboratory in Palo Alto, CA for 18 months and became a casualty of the aerospace industry lay-offs in March 1969. After that I landed at Avco Everett Research Laboratory in Everett, MA in May 1969 and managed their animal research laboratory from 1970 to 1975 when I moved to the commercial side of medical research at Avco Medical Products. In 1979, I married Kathy Bergin. Kathy and I met when she was a technical librarian at Avco. We both enjoyed sailing and bought a Southern Cross 28 sailboat and spent most of our spare time sailing Narragansett Bay, Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod. We considered taking a year off and going sailing but in 1980 I founded Medical Device Consultants, Inc. (MDCI). Since then I think I’ve become a workaholic. For the first 5 years, I worked out of the basement of our home. Our son Christopher was born in 1983. It was really nice to be working from home during those first couple of years. I don’t think many fathers get to see much of their children during those first couple of years. But when MDCI reached 10 employees Kathy said either the business had to move or she was moving. (Can’t understand why) Kathy has worked as a pre-school teacher for the past 12 years and really enjoys working with young children. For several years, Chris and I enjoyed cycling together, we did a century ride (100 miles) and toured Nova Scotia on a tandem when he was 11 years old. Now at 19, for some reason he doesn’t seem to want to spend much time with Mom & Dad any more. He is very much in to computers and works in computer sales and service. MDCI is a regulatory consulting firm and contract research organization providing services to medical device and diagnostic product manufacturers. We assist companies in meeting the regulatory, quality systems and clinical trial requirement to market their products in the US, Europe and Canada. MDCI’s headquarters are in North Attleboro, MA and have offices in London, Paris, San Diego, Raleigh and Colorado Springs. (www.mdci.com) MDCI has given me a chance to travel through most of the US and Western Europe. I want to thank everyone for the terrific job they’ve done on the CV ’62 website it’s great. |
