strategy before the meeting. (photo by some bystander)
On October 9, 2001 the following members of
the Chenango Valley Class of 1962 met at the Little Venice
restaurant to discuss the possibility of a 40th reunion.
Dick Martz (our computer guru who is responsible for and done a fabulous
job with our website). Mike O'Loughlin our Chairman and leader
(he has a big job keeping us on track). Faith Hancock Simolari
and Joan LaRusso Gifford are co-secretaries ---just making sure that any
plans are duly recorded. These two are also planning the Saturday
major social event. Willis Vermilya is our Treasurer and he will
be more than happy to take any financial donations and make sure
they are used to provide for a wonderful time for all. Wonderful
support and great ideas came from Barbara Previte Weisberg, Ellen
Knapp Mooney, Gary Campbell, Brian Stiles, Jim Whited and Bill Pomeroy.
John Pollack was our honorary guest from the class of 1960. John
gave us some great ideas on things that he had done for the 1960 reunion.
We talked about each and everyone of our classmates.
There have been some touched by an angel----Ray Marier, Donna Lance, Sally
Duncan and Pat Kane have joined Ken Anderson, Jim Cook, Bill Lawrence,
Barbara Lester and Cheryl Welch in memoriam. We will
miss all of these classmates.
Mike O'Loughlin started the meeting by asking
what the groups feelings were as far as being interested in having a reunion---a
show of hands confimed that we do want to do this. Secondly, it was
recognized that those who worked on the 25th did an outstanding job.
However, it was noted that this reunion would need fresh financial assistance
to pull it off without anyone having to absorb mailing costs, etc... on
their own. Those present did not seem to think donations to
a general fund would be a problem.
The class roll was read and those present volunteered
to find out up-to-date information on all of the classmates. We are
to complete our search by the end of 2001. This information should
be forwarded to Mike O'Loughlin.
Dick Martz was kind enough to show us the Yahoo
message website (this can be accessed through the CV62 site) and our very
own CV62 site at http://www.rjmartz.com/cv62.asp.
We need to be encouraging everyone to join as it is a wonderful
means of spreading the word about the reunion as well as catching up
on the last 40 years in a few moments. He also explained
that the school is going thru a complete facelift (see photos in the CV62
web site). That it is time for some serious updating of the
school---getting rid of the asbestos flooring and expanding some of
the facilities.
We talked about the time of year for the reunion
and agreed that September would probably work out the best for most
people. The weather is still wonderful and there are
fewer obligations at that time of the year. Facilities were also
discussed and John Pollack gave the Binghamton Regency rave reviews.
Bill Pomeroy was kind enough to offer assistance in looking at these properties.
Once the business part of the meeting was completed
the group immediately returned to the fun part of the evening. What
had happened to each of us over the last 40 years was sprinkled with talk
of children, grandchildren, retirement and even second careers. Most
of all the recalled "do you remember when we" was part of all of our conversations.
We want our other classmates to come join us for more of this fun.
As the old song said "Will I see you in September"...
we certainly hope so!
